Community Foundation of St. Joseph County

Simply put, the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County is a charitable endowment to improve the quality of life for the citizens of St. Joseph County and their succeeding generations. How? We receive gifts from people who care about the St. Joseph County community, we invest these gifts forever, and we use the investment earnings to make grants each year to local charities. Often, individuals use their gifts to create a permanent fund in their family name. Each year, the Community Foundation tells them how much money is available to give away from their fund. Some then advise the Foundation on which charities they wish to receive the money. Others consult with Community Foundation staff to gain a better understanding of community needs. Individuals may also set up funds to benefit specific charities or to serve a field of charitable interest, such as the arts, educational scholarships, youth, or the environment. Several local corporations have set up funds as part of their strategy to support the local community. In this way, the Community Foundation brings good people and good causes together for a better St. Joseph County, now and in the future.

      Thanks to the vision of a wonderful community asset named Tom Lower for his tireless energy in gathering the finances making this project a reality. Tom's idea of "renovating" the existing band shell led to South Bend Rotary's involvement in building the fund and engaging James Child's Architects and Robert Henry Corp to bring the plan to reality. Thanks to all South Bend Rotarians for their hard work and thanks to the Community Foundation for enabling all this to happen! Tom Lower - good man and great Rotarian! Collapse
