Mr. Zisla has a unique style that makes his paintings stand apart from every thing else I have seen for several years. I just attended the St. James Art Festival in Old Louisville and Zisla's work is the most memorable. Very nice style and most paintings were captavating and impressive. Collapse

There are three artists displaying in Gallery 807 of the New Galleries this July. They are Diane Tessler, Scott Hatt and David Lester Learn. Gallery 807 is a starkly white and modern gallery which shows by invitation, and applications are welcome. Gallery 807 tends toward the more cutting edge, but nationally known artist Diane Tessler is certainly not cutting edge. With a pre-impressionistic palette and a rural theme, her work is – solid as a rock. Scott Hatt, of the Spurious Fugitive, shows “a small suite of his paintings.” Hatt is dealing with the deafening flood of post-modernism, a profound challenge, and his work is real. David Lester Learn’s paintings, “NYC Series” are unframed canvas strips, beautifully executed in oil, graphite, spray paint and acrylic. They are easily passed over because they are so subtle, yet they are there for those who have eyes to see. The New Galleries are on Lincolnway West in South Bend, Indiana. Check out the website. There are twenty-six artists displaying in Gallery 805 this July. These include members of the St. Joe Valley Watercolor Society, the Northern Indiana Pastel Society and the Northern Indiana Artists Association as well as individual artists such as David Allen, Lea Goldman and Mike Amato. Gallery 805 tends toward the traditional, though that is not a rule. Eighty-three year old Norma Helm’s abstract paintings are richly suggestive of a saucy life well spent. Mike Amato’s controversial gay series sparks indignation, and Lea Goldman’s lino-blocks bespeak wisdom married to a sophisticated vision. The 19th century sense of order, beauty and truth peeks out of the work of Cathy McCormick, Joe Schultz, Mona Witt and others. This is largely real and affordable work. The New Galleries reside at 805 and 807 Lincolnway West in South Bend, Indiana. Regular hours are Friday 5-9:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday noon-5:00 pm. Openings and artist receptions are the First Friday of every month. Collapse
