    The Euclid Quartet gives an engaging and entertaining "talk" and performance of this groundbreaking work. Although the material is dissonant, the sound techniques grab the attention of the listener in a visceral way. Friday night’s presentation helped tie together these features with the aesthetic purpose and compositional design of the work in layman's terms. After a playful demonstration of these features, the Quartet gave a spirited full performance that was satisfying on all levels and included a minor "happening" in the form of a broken viola string due to the slap pizzicato's of the fourth movement. As Luis tended to his broken string the other members threatened to tell Viola jokes in his absence. The Viola world was saved by Luis quick return. After the performance the audience was invited to join the Quartet for some "Bar Talk" at a local pub! Collapse

    “Visions Fugitive: New Work in Video, Animation, and Sound” illustrates in various views, Lasater’s incredible interpretation of a media culture. With that media he puts before his viewer a post-modern and post-pop culture experience, a true twenty-first century collection. Through motion and sound Lasater is able to layer his work with elements that serve to further articulate his compostion. He describes “In Tempo,” which depicts a human figure slowly transforming it boundaries in a sense of movement as “constantly moving video seeming to seek a still, timeless point…it is a self-portrait of time and motion.” “Ephiphany,” a truly post-pop culture piece of bright colors and overtly simplified images, evokes a game-show, carnival arcade sentiment.The Visions Fugitive collection operates as a collage for the senses; giving the viewer a scene, a landscape of the experience; dream-like, nightmare-like, trance-like.     The IUSB Theatre Company rebounded well from the last performance, With their Eyes. The actors gave this play there all, performing as if the audience was not even there. The actress who portrayed Don Pablo performed masterfully as a male and she stole the show. Again, the sound was at times to hear, since IUSB does not mic the performers, but for the most part they projected well. The set, as simple as it was, was perfect for the show. The art backdrop fit the original French ideas perfectly and made for easy scene changes. I was very excited to see even the stage hands in character. I think this helped from the scene changes distracting from the play that was occuring brilliantly on stage. The lighting was perfect and always on cue to individual monologues or to open up the whole stage. All in all the play was a great time and I would have gladly paid more than what the school charges for tickets. Congrats and good job to all those involved. Collapse
