Midwest Museum of American Art

The Midwest Museum of American Art is located in the center of downtown Elkhart, Indiana in a beautifully renovated neo-classical style bank building. The Midwest Museum of American Art is a showcase of the 19th and 20th century American Art, with original paintings by Grandma Moses and Norman Rockwell. Along with the original Norman Rockwell the Midwest Museum houses a large collection of hand signed lithographs by this famous American artist. In all, the permanent collection numbers over 2500 works with at least 600 on display at any time during the Midwest Museum’s 52 week year.

      If you have never been or if you've been a hundred times - the Midwest Museum of American Art's Peter Max litho exhibit honoring the lost on 9-11 is a MUST-DO this Labor Day Weekend! Then, lunch at b on the River - and check out Elkhart's newly- renovated The Lerner - beautiful Theatre and so much more! Then there's 9-10 am yoga in the Wellfield Botanic Gardens - open to the public for a sliding scale $4-10 - get out there and see the Quilt Gardens and Elk Art - a riverside community dressed up for enjoyment!       When living in the Elkhart area, I was fortunate to be volunteering at the MMAA for the opening of Ray Howlett's last exhibit there. I had met the artist during a Noon Time Talks and had seen a sampling of his works at that time. That exhibit was absolutely awesome. I was overwhelmed with the question "How does he do that??" and though I couldn't really afford it, I managed to purchase a small sculpture. It is the highlight of my art collection. Though I now live in Georgia, plans are already made for my trip back to Elkhart for this exhibit. I cannot wait to see the works that he has developed for this show. Don't miss it. You have my personal guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Collapse

      The works in this show are incredible. Each year seems to get better and better. I highly recommend it be seen by everyone in the area. Great show and very well exhibited. This museum is easy to reach from the 80/90 toll road or US 20 bypass. If you're in the area - stop in. You won't regret it. Collapse
