In this audacious collaboration with Grammy winners Turtle Island Quartet and Paquito D’Rivera, a remarkable musical and dance experience, Danzón, arrives on national tour of a commission by the University of Notre Dame. The Danzón, called the official dance of Cuba, initially evolved from Haitian-partnered folk dance called contradance. Its current form was created by Miguel Faílde Pérez in 1879, and although the Danzón has evolved in many respects, much of the original structure remains. A modern reinvention of the traditional Cuban dance form, Danzón, transcends place and genre as a universal work of art.
