Two forward-thinking artists. Two programs investigating the nexus of jazz and classical music. One remarkable evening including the University of Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra. The first half of the performance is Childs's Jazz-Chamber Ensemble. The second half is "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra," a Childs composition for Ms. Carter commissioned by the University of Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center; the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Leonard Slatkin, music director; Oakland East Bay Symphony, Michael Morgan, music director; San Francisco Performances; and Boston Pops, Keith Lockhart, conductor.
