DANCE

Alice
April 27, 2008
Add Review/CommentChildren’s Dance Workshop, directed by Bonnie Boilini Baxter, presents Alice. The performance is based on Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Over 50 children from the Michiana community, primarily ages 6-12, have been integral to the creation of this adventure. It is a part of the Children Dance Workshop’s end-of-year lecture demonstration featuring students from all classes. It is a unique collaborative effort with student dancers learning choreography as well as sharing in the choreographic effort and creating costumes and sets. It is amazing to witness what the students have created and imagined. It will be a feast for the eyes, ears and spirit! Baxter, formerly the artistic director of Southold Dance Theater, states that this is the fulfillment of a long time vision. “It is truly amazing what children in this age group can accomplish, given the inspiration and the direction.” The faculty and children of Children’s Dance Workshop are inspired by Lewis Carroll who was born in 1832 in England. What Carroll told was a tale that has only one human character, a little girl, who wanders in and out of experiences and dilemmas in a land peopled by talking animals and dreamlike creatures. The Children’s Modern Dance Workshop presents an interpretation of Alice, gathering from the old, the new and the imagination of the children who participate.
