Join us for an exhibit of recent pastel paintings by Susan Henshaw. "The Waves of Lake Michigan have always drawn me to the edge of the shoreline in fascination. There, I get lost in their magnificent and gentle beauty and sometimes frightening power. The Lake is ever-changing and each wave that comes to the shore is unique. The shapes of the waves reflect the Catalyst of the winds and the myriad of the water’s colors change with the atmosphere. They can gently glide shimmering over the shoreline or forcefully churn sand and rock into chaos. At other times the surface is a smooth mirror of the sky. I find Pastel to be the perfect medium for capturing the nature of waves. Using pastel allows me to convey energy and movement with bold, fast strokes. Depth and space can be achieved through under-paintings and sometimes show through the finished work. Areas of light are developed using various techniques of glazing and blending. While exploring the fascinating and ever changing world of waves I have made a connection to myself as an artist. Each day the world (Lake) changes. Each day I am a different person (Catalyst). Each day I am a different artist (Wave)." Join us Saturday, February 6 from 1:00-3:00 (MI time) for an artist reception with Susan Henshaw.
