China Night

The Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most significant traditional Chinese holiday. It is also an important holiday in East Asia. This coming new year is the Year of Tiger. The lunar New Year falls on the first day of the first moon (lunar month) and in 2010 falls on February 14. On this day, Saint Mary’s College will its second “China Night Program” to celebrate the holiday with the South Bend community. Saint Mary’s students and local community members will perform Chinese dances, music, and plays and put on a fashion show to celebrate the occasion. Students who have participated in the College’s China Summer Program will showcase their study abroad experience. All children and students at the event will be presented with red envelopes, which is a tradition during the Chinese New Year celebration.
