South Bend Civic Theatre's first ever Kidz4Kidz production, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson and in The Century Center, opens to find all of the kids in town love going to church and Sunday school, if for no other reason than there is NEVER a member of the Herdman family there. It's the town's one safe bastion away from “the WORST kids in town.” You know what kind of kids we’re talkin’ about! The kids who bite, pinch, kick, curse and smoke cigars! However, once the Herdman clan gets wind that they serve some pretty tasty snacks at Sunday school, coupled with the fact that the usually vigilant director of the pageant is out of commission with a broken leg, the entire family decides volunteering for the annual Christmas Pageant might just be worth their while. Just when you thought it was safe to go to church… the Herdman family invades and tries to turn the traditional, sweet, and beloved Christmas Pageant into… “The Revenge at Bethlehem,” complete with machine guns and a plot to assassinate King Herod! This hilarious and endearing holiday play for children, and presented with an entirely school-age cast and crew, will demonstrate important lessons about tolerance and patience…and that things, AND PEOPLE, might not be just exactly as they appear.
