By Susan Baxter. Directed by Mark Abram Copenhaver.

Katie Maura Mahan arrives home after being expelled from the Sisters of Mercy Convent – pregnant. She soon finds herself fighting for her honor, her child, and her faith in the wake of serious corruption in her church. Set in Ireland in 1942, this play examines the impact of community, power and obedience on a heart genuinely devoted to the Catholic faith. Confessions of the Chaff will be a world premiere by Saint Mary’s instructor, Susan Baxter, who for the past seven years, has been an instructor in the Department of Communication Studies, Dance and Theatre at Saint Mary’s. She also teaches several courses cross-listed with the Department of English. Confessions of the Chaff won second place in the Mildred and Albert Panowski National Play Competition at Northern Michigan University.
