Beach Boys
August 15, 2009
Legendary California rock band and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members The Beach Boys return to South Bend for a great summer evening under the stars at St. Patrick's County Park.
Led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, The Beach Boys have embodied the spirit of California to a worldwide audience and the band continues to ride the crest of a wave unequalled in America’s musical history. Since lead-singer Mike Love penned the lyrics to The Beach Boys’ first hit, “Surfin’” in 1961, the band has had a string of chart-topping songs that includes eternal anthems of American youth: “Surfin’ USA,” “Surfer Girl,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “I Get Around,” “California Girls,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “Barbara Ann,” “Good Vibrations,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Sloop John B,” “Little Deuce Coupe,” and “Rock and Roll Music.” In 1988 The Beach Boys released their biggest selling multi-platinum hit “Kokomo” which was nominated for a Grammy award.
The concert will feature a vintage car display near the main entrance to the Robert J. Fischgrund Center for the Performing Arts, including classic Studebaker and Avanti vehicles which were manufactured in South Bend until 1963 and which will be provided by South Bend’s Studebaker Museum. Festive summer foods will be offered for sale, and a fireworks display will follow the concert.
