THEATRE

The Michiana Monologues
February 22-February 23, 2008
Add Review/CommentThis is an original theatrical production, and is a fund-raiser for local agencies that work to stop violence against women, and to empower women and children: SOS of the Madison Center, St. Margaret's House, and the YWCA of St. Joseph County. From many anonymous submission s from area writers, an editorial team of students, professors, and a health professional shaped a script of local women's stories. It will entertain, move, and enlighten the audience with real women’s stories that unfold right in Michiana. These monologues include the voices of women reflecting on first kisses, the embarrassment of menstruation and sex ed, horrendous and magical dates, the joys and agonies of motherhood, the fear and thrill of coming out, the pleasures and changes of longtime marriage, the delights of being single, the power of aging, the strength it takes to survive abuse and depression, and the humor that carries us all through the rough times so we can revel in the power of being women. As with Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, this production will star a large cast of diverse women reading in solo and chorus pieces. Music, sign-language interpreters, and dancing will enrich the event, as well.
