Now in it's 25th incarnation, the South Bend Museum of Art's all media Biennial 25 presents a diverse look into contemporary artwork made by artists living in the Midwest. Open to artists residing in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, Ohio and Wisconsin, this exhibition is an up-to-date dialogue of art happening in our own backyard. From over 200 submitting artists, only 14 were selected by juror William Lieberman, owner/director of Zolla/Lieberman Gallery, Chicago, IL . The pool of exhibiting artists is deliberately limited to allow for the showing of a greater body of work by each artist. In his juror statement Lieberman writes, “As juror of the South Bend Museum of Art’s Biennial 25, I selected an exhibition of 14 artists from over 200 submissions, spanning a diverse range of media, subject matter and aesthetic style.

The artists selected share a high quality of craftsmanship, and each infuse a dreamy sensibility to the content of their work. With works ranging from figurative to surreal to psychologically confrontational, these artists address contemporary issues of anger and violence, beauty, isolation, and sexuality with ethereal and idiosyncratic visions.”

The following artists will have works on display in Biennial 25: Amanda Heise, Milwaukee, WI (printmaking); Mia Capodilupo, Chicago, IL (mixed media sculpture); Samuel Hoffman, Fort Wayne, IN (painting); Scott Ziegler, Bloomington, IL (ceramics); Benjamin Duke, Lansing, MI (painting); Jessica Freudenberg, Mokena, IL (painting); Endi Poskovic, Ann Arbor, MI (printmaking); Jui Desai, Chicago, IL (painting); Aaron Tinder, Indianola, IA (drawing/painting); Melanie Pankau, Milwaukee, WI (installation); Mike Rebholz, Madison, WI (photography); Dominic Paul Moore, Chicago, IL (drawing); Christopher Ganz, Fort Wayne, IN (drawing); Alison Erazmus, New Harmony, IN (photography).

The museum uses this pool of artists to acquire new works into its permanent collection with $1,500 in purchase awards. Other artists will receive a $1,500 in merit awards sponsored by the museum’s Art League.
