Camryn Manheim has never played by the rules. Her fierce determination to defy the beauty myth, the naysayers and casting stereotypes has resulted in one of today's most remarkable and unique Hollywood success stories. Made possible by the Margaret Hill Endowed Chair for Saint Mary's College Theatre, Manheim is spending three days on campus highlighted by a public lecture. The night Camryn Manheim accepted the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, she proudly raised the statue above her head and proclaimed, “This is for all the fat girls!” Manheim’s groundbreaking role as the strong-willed, smart defense attorney, Eleanor Frutt, on ABC’s The Practice, has changed the face of television. After years of struggling to be accepted as a plus-size actress, Manheim had finally succeeded against all odds in an industry fraught with prejudice and stereotypes. Manheim's appearance is made possible by the Margaret Hill Endowed Chair for Saint Mary's College Theatre.
