The Michiana Improvisational Music Festival (MIMF) began in 1991 when Prof. David Barton invited improvising electronic musicians and ensembles to come to IU South Bend for a festival of improvisation. Each Spring since then, musicians and performance artists from many places have gathered here to improvise during morning and afternoon improvisation sessions, and to perform for the public in several concerts. IU South Bend students and alumni are frequent and much-welcomed participants in this event.
