Vesper Chorale will offer a workshop with lecture and rehearsal the day before the Sing-along Messiah performance. The workshop will give participants a look inside the composition. When the conductor is rehearsing with the Chorale, he gives the members a thorough understanding of the composition and the musical style in which it was written. The workshop and lecture is a way for the audience to receive this same information and have a chance to rehearse the music. The audience will understand the musical work in its historical context by learning about the life and times of the composer, the specific reasons the piece was composed, how it has evolved over the centuries, any controversies surrounding its performance history, and truly grasp the intent and original style of the composition through lecture by the conductor and demonstration by the chorale.
