Add Review/Comment
The South Bend Symphonic Choir, conducted by Marvin V. Curtis, Ed.D. presents its fall concert. The program will include John Rutter’s Gloria, Gabriele’s Jubilate Deo and Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The South Bend Symphonic Choir was founded in 1967, was affiliated with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and numbered approximately 100 members. In 1975, the choir established a unique relationship with IU South Bend when it became an ensemble in residence under the conductorship of Robert W. Demaree Jr. Demaree later became the Dean of the College of Fine Arts and downsized the ensemble to an auditioned choir of approximately 65 voices. Over the past 40 years the South Bend Symphonic Choir has performed with the IUSB Philharmonic Orchestra, Kokomo Symphonic Orchestra, Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, as well as the internationally acclaimed Kirov Orchestra from St. Petersburg, Russia. The performances with the Kirov Orchestra took place both in South Bend and at Chicago's Orchestra Hall while they were on tour. The choir’s repertoire ranges from the choral works of the masters, to pops and show tunes, to specialty theme concerts covering a variety of musical literature.
