Oklahoma! broke all box office records when it opened in 1943 and won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1944. It was the first musical to tell a story with music, dance and lyrics, forever changing the form of musical theatre. Set in the early 1900's, the musical is partially about the Indian Territory becoming the state of Oklahoma. Curly is a stubborn cowboy who had trouble admitting his feelings to Laurey, as does she. In contrast, Laurey's friend Ado Annie can't seem to control her feelings for both Will Parker and the peddler man. Love triumphs in this beautiful tale set against the plains of America. The music and lyrics have proven to be some of the best in musical theatre with songs that include "Oh What a Beautiful Morning," "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top," "People Will Say We're in Love," "I Can't Say No," "Oklahoma!" and many more.
