The Snite Museum of Art and the Department of Art, Art History, and Design announce a lecture by Frank Baseman. Frank Baseman is a designer, educator, and activist who has been working in the graphic design industry for over twenty years. He currently is the principal of the internationally recognized firm Baseman Design Associates and is associate professor of graphic design communication at Philadelphia University. He has also previously worked under the direction of catalyst designers such as Walter Bernard and Milton Glaser. Basemen is a strong supporter of design education and in addition to being a professor, he was the founding chair of the steering committee for the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Design Education Community of Interest and was co chair of Revolution: Philadelphia, a national AIGA Design Education Conference in 2005. In addition to supporting design education, he also supports using design for the good of the world and society. He is currently the co curator of a traveling exhibition entitled The Graphic Imperative: International Posters for Peace, Social Justice and the Environment, 1965-20 which is a collection of sociopolitical posters from around the world. Most recently, Frank Baseman was honored by receiving the 2008 AIGA Philadelphia Fellow Award for all of his achievements in the field of design. In addition to his lecture on Thursday evening, Frank Baseman will be on the Notre Dame campus for three days during which he will meet with and critique the work of both graduate and undergraduate design students. The main event on Thursday, however, is not exclusive and is free and open to the public.
