Every year in early December, the University of Notre Dame Chorale and Chamber Orchestra present Handel's Messiah in Leighton Concert Hall. These popular performances of Handel's greatest oratoria, under the directions of Alexander Blachly, are traditionally sold-out events.
From the stirring overture of the famous "Halleluja Chorus," Handel's noble music continues to thrill audeiences all over the world. The Notre Dame Chorale and Chamber Orchestra bring to the work freshness and spireted delivery that enliven the work's powerful imagery. The University of Notre Dame Chorale and Chamber Orchsestra are select choral organizations, open to students from every field of study. In its campus concerts and on our tour throughout the nation, the Chorale and Chamber Orchestra present music drwan from the finest chroal tradition. It has appeared frequently with orchestra in works by Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Stravinsky. Directo Alexander Blachly is well-known outside the Universlity of Notre Dame for his world-acclaimed Renaissance vocal ensemble Pomerium.
