One Moore Beach Day
October 20, 2007
Add Review/CommentSandcastles, Indian Beads, and other beach treasures will be featured in One Moore Beach Day. Sand sculptor and photographer Janet Moore Schrader has complied her work in the form of prints, photos, mix media and found objects from the local shoreline of Lake Michigan. A sizable collection of beach fossils will also be on display. In search for answers after a major illness, Janet began daily walks on the beach four years ago. Creating art was the answer to what was missing in her life. What form of art? was answered by her teenage son, when rocks fell out of a closet and he asked " When are you going to do something with all these rocks?'. The beach is a place of worship for Janet, for each fossil found she gives thanks for still being alive. Her art is an expression of that thank fullness. As founder of Fairy Godmother Services, Janet's new business offers freelance photography, beach art, and sand sculpting. Photos of sand sculpting lessons and events are highlighted in the show. Janet also gives talks at libraries and schools on beach fossils. The public is invited to a Beach Party Reception Saturday Oct. 20th 1:00-3:00, refreshments will be served to all who bring their best found beach treasure. A lecture " The Truth About Crinoids / Indian Beads" will be at 2:30.
