The Moreau Art Galleries at Saint Mary's College is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibition of paintings by artist Gianna Commito. Currently an Assistant Professor of Painting at Kent State University (Kent, Ohio), Gianna received her MFA from University of Iowa, and her BFA from Alfred University. Gianna’s paintings and drawings are derived from architectural sources, from which she builds a complex matrix of color, form, transparency and texture on a two-dimensional surface. Commito states, “Paring down and isolating images while painting them in a way that is cognizant of how our culture processes information is fundamental to my work. We are over-stimulated by the graphics that compete for our attention on computers and television. There is never just one thing going on.”
