Visions Fugitive: New Work in Video, Animation, and Sound features work by Communication Arts Professor Michael Lasater. Lasater’s work has been displayed at many galleries and film festivals around the country and he has won several prizes for his multimedia presentations. Professor Lasater has also produced, directed, written, filmed and edited documentaries on literature and music. For more information about the artist please visit www.michaellasater.com.       “Visions Fugitive: New Work in Video, Animation, and Sound” illustrates in various views, Lasater’s incredible interpretation of a media culture. With that media he puts before his viewer a post-modern and post-pop culture experience, a true twenty-first century collection. Through motion and sound Lasater is able to layer his work with elements that serve to further articulate his compostion. He describes “In Tempo,” which depicts a human figure slowly transforming it boundaries in a sense of movement as “constantly moving video seeming to seek a still, timeless point…it is a self-portrait of time and motion.” “Ephiphany,” a truly post-pop culture piece of bright colors and overtly simplified images, evokes a game-show, carnival arcade sentiment.The Visions Fugitive collection operates as a collage for the senses; giving the viewer a scene, a landscape of the experience; dream-like, nightmare-like, trance-like.
