The Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble of 70-80 players, is open to Music majors, non-Music majors who wish to continue instrumental performance during their college careers, and all other members of the Notre Dame community; its repertory encompasses the major symphonic literature of the 18th-20th centuries. In March of 2004, the orchestra joined the famed Irish traditional-music ensemble The Chieftains in concerts at Notre Dame and at Carnegie Hall in New York. In recent years they have also presented concerts in Chicago, Toronto, California, and Florida.
