Film - Zoot Suit Riots
September 9, 2007
Add Review/CommentAn American Experience film, “Zoot Suit Riots” tells the true story of a young Mexican American man who was murdered in Los Angeles in 1942 and the resulting firestorm that ignited when tensions that had been building up for years between Mexican American and white Los Angelenos boiled over. Through original photography and moving interviews with eyewitnesses, the film chronicles the trial and violent events that followed as the Mexican American population challenged racial attitudes in Los Angeles. Attendees may view Media Coverage of Civil Rights prior to and following the film. Over 40 South Bend Tribune stories and images are on view in Media Coverage of Civil Rights. The exhibit, which explores civil rights in South Bend during the 1960s as seen through the eyes of The Tribune, is presented in partnership by the Center for History, Civil Rights Heritage Center, and South Bend Tribune.
