May 3-May 31, 2007
Add Review/CommentThis exhibition is an eclectic collection of her latest works of art. “The theme of this exhibit is portraits of people I have known and landscapes and seascapes I have enjoyed. The mediums used in this collection are Oils, Pastels and Charcoal. There will be approximately 35 pieces in this exhibit. I love oils and pastels, the intensity of color and the immediacy of their effect. I seem to have a passion for whatever medium I am using. Paintings should take you somewhere, inspire you, elevate you or bring memories of another time or place to your mind stimulating emotions that you may have forgotten. Art should touch you as it does the artist. The inspiration may be as fleeting as the light as it goes across the sky, but the memory of that moment can last forever if caught on canvas from my perspective”. “Happy Together” is charcoal drawing of a tree or trees, I am not sure which, it is a study of the rhythms of nature and how plants, trees and people manage to live together in what seems like a harmonious lifestyle. Trees are symbols of strength, long life, living free, all seeing, and their lives are much like ours. The struggle to survive the elements, humankind’s onslaught, and the struggle for their own space in close quarters is never ending. Each landscape, dune scene or seascape inspires memories as old as time. The twisted and intertwined limbs seem to be wrestling with the wind and searching for rainwater, a place to bask in the sun and space to grow to their fullest potential. The painting of “Zachary” is an oil of a 15-year-old boy that is definitely coming into his own. The position of the head allows the viewer to come into his world only for a glimpse. The technique is strong and it only accents the strength of a boy who looks much older than he is. The baby fat is gone, and hidden behind the pensive look, is the promise of humanity at its best. Children change moment by moment right before our eyes, I try to captures those moments of innocence and charm before they are lost. The pastel painting titled “And Now I See Myself”. A young girl passing before a mirror like image of her is surprised to see that part of her is going in a different direction. The struggle to pull ourselves together and become the best that we can be is always pulling at us.
