In 1955, a fourteen-year-old African American teen from Chicago didn’t understand that he had broken the unwritten laws of the Jim Crow South when he whistled at a white woman in a small town in Mississippi. Shortly after, the teen, Emmett Till, was brutally murdered by two white men. The murder and the subsequent acquittal, horrified the nation. The Murder of Emmett Till is part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Presentation Series offered in conjunction with the exhibit, Media Coverage of Civil Rights.
