San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble
September 24, 2005
Add Review/CommentNoted for their trademark smooth sound and polished vocal work, the critically acclaimed San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble will present a program of ancient sacred world music. The San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble, better known as SAVAE, has earned national attention for its ground breaking exploration of ancient music. Formed in 1989 by Covita Moroney and her husband, artistic director, Christopher Moroney, SAVAE made its debut in San Antonio’s historic San Fernando Cathedral. In the year's that have followed the ensemble has recorded four ground-breaking CD's, including "Ancient Echoes" and "Guadalupe: Virgen de los Indios," and toured to cities across the United States as well as internationally. The group has been featured on National Public Radio and reports of their innovative approach to early world music have appeared in major daily papers including the Los Angeles Times, The Houston Chronicle, and the Chicago Sun Times. As a complement to their vocal work, SAVAE accompanies its live performances with its impressive collection of ancient wind, string, and percussion instruments from Latin America and the Middle East. In describing a SAVAE concert, Music Critic Diane Windeler wrote: "Listening to The SAVAE's recording of 2,000-year-old music is intriguing enough, but nothing can compare with seeing a live performance of this music. On every level, it was an affecting, revelatory performance."
