O.A.R. (… Of A Revolution) has quickly become one of the most popular live acts and have moved beyond their Ohio State University fame. Their latest album, Stories Of A Stranger, is creating quite a buzz for the band. O.A.R. independently sold over 35,000 copies of their first two CD’s and toured relentlessly behind a major word of mouth following. O.A.R. has toured with the Dave Matthews Band, Train and Sheryl Crow. The band has continued their momentum with each release including 2002’s Any Time Now, In Between Now and Then in 2003 and the double disc live package 34th & 8th in the summer of 2004. O.A.R. was formed in 1998 by Ohio State University frat boys. The band consists of Marc Roberge (lead vocals, electric and acoustic guitar), Richard On (lead guitar, background vocals), Jerry DePizzo (saxophone), Benj Gershman (bass), and Chris Culos (drums). Culos and Roberge were junior high buddies. They had played in bands with friends, On and Gershman in their home town of Rockville, Maryland . While at OSU the boys met DePizzo (who is from Youngstown, Ohio). In 1997, O.A.R. recorded their independent debut album, The Wanderer, with the single, “That Was A Crazy Game of Poker,” which became a college hit. Soon, the group began selling out at university towns from the East to Midwest of the United States. In 1999, O.A.R. released SOULS AFLAME with the singles “City on Down” and “Night Shift.” In 2000, when file sharing hit around the United States, O.A.R.’s popularity exploded. The group’s third album Risen was recorded during the summer of 2000 in New York City and debuted at number one on February 24, 2001, on Billboard’s Top Internet Sales Chart. In 2002, Any Time Now was released and sold 100,000 copies. It debuted at No. 11 on Billboard’s Top Internet Sales chart, No. 156 on Billboard’s Top 200, and No. 4 on the Heatseekers Chart. In 2002, O.A.R. was invited to tour on the Jeep World Outside Festival Tour with artists such as Sheryl Crow, Ziggy Marley, and Train. In 2003, O.A.R. hit major exposure with the release of their album, In Between Now and Then. The group promoted the new album on popular late night shows such as Dave Letterman and Jay Leno. O.A.R.’s current single “Love and Memories” has had a great run at modern rock radio and is about to make the jump to pop. Over the course of the last few months, the band has performed on popular late night shows such as The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Extreme Makeover Home Edition. They’ve sold out shows from coast to coast, and garnered significant radio and video airplay. Along the way they’ve grown a loyal fan base, selling more than a million albums since they formed in 1997.
