Magbana Drum and Dance NYC is a group of 15 percussionists and dancers with a large repertory of exciting West African pieces. Titled after the Guinean nickname for taxi, Magbana has had audiences jumping out of their seats at a variety of venues from the East Coast to the Midwest. Their work integrates martial arts, modern dance, and world percussion, making it truly unique. The sheer power of the drumming and explosive energy of the dancers combined with innovative choreography, original costumes, and racial diversity puts Magbana in a class by itself.

      Magbana's incredible choreography and artistry produced by director Michael Markus, features the dazzling drum hands of M'Bemba Bangoura from Guinea West Africa. The ten member troupe performs traditional and original arrangements of West African pieces using djembes, djun-djuns, and krin. Each time I have seen them perform I have left with my heart in my throat. You will want to jump up and dance and will feel the joy of these ancient rhythms and ethnic instruments heal your spirit. Come to see this amazing show and chase away any winter doldrums! Collapse
